Bank Holiday Drama as Firefighters Rescue Casualty in Ryde
Fire crews from the Isle of Wight rushed to a dramatic rescue on Bank Holiday Monday. Just after 11.30am, emergency teams scrambled to St Thomas Square, Ryde, to help paramedics get a sick person out of a building.
Road Closure and Specialist Gear in Action
The road was shut both ways while the rescue was underway. Two fire crews and a specialist aerial ladder platform (ALP) were called in to tackle the tricky operation.
Daring Rescue Using Aerial Ladder
Firefighters carefully removed windows so the patient could be lifted down in the ALP’s basket. The casualty was then slowly lowered to the ground and handed over to paramedics waiting in an ambulance.
The patient has now been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for treatment.
