Isle of Wight Tourism Goes for Gold with New Green Star Scheme!
Nearly half of the Isle of Wight’s tourism businesses have hit the gold standard in Visit Isle of Wight’s revamped Green Star scheme – proving that going green is the new golden ticket!
Green Goals: Gold Standard Set High
To snag gold, businesses must nail at least 85% of the criteria focused on sustainable transport. That means inspiring visitors to hop on eco-friendly travel, offering walking trails, or installing electric vehicle charging points.
Big Support for Sustainable Travel
Over 60 tourism businesses signed up in just the first three months, pledging to promote greener travel across the island. The new Green Star scheme rolls out three levels – bronze, silver, and gold – so every business can join in and get recognition.
Local Businesses Share Their Green Wins
“We made a few little tweaks and then bingo, we were in there, it was great! It was very helpful to get that support from Visit Isle of Wight too.” – Paul McCathie, Goodleaf Tree Climbing
“The Isle of Wight Pearl has always backed all things green. Walking and cycling are our go-to sustainable travel options. But promoting bus use too helps guests get around. Southern Vectis supports us with the Coaster bus during peak season, and all year round we point visitors to the bus stop in Brighstone village.” – Rossanne Burfoot, Isle of Wight Pearl Marketing Team
Gold Rush for Green Tourism
Out of 61 members, 26 businesses have already earned the coveted gold rating. Visit Isle of Wight’s Green Star scheme is proving you don’t have to choose between tourism and the planet – you can have both.
