Fire Near Heathrow Sparks Travel Chaos

Morning Blaze Halts Trains and Closes Station

A fire near Heathrow Airport has thrown the Wednesday rush hour into turmoil. The blaze forced a key station closure and disrupted rail services between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals. Travel headaches are expected to continue until at least noon.

Train Lines Reopen But Delays Linger

National Rail confirmed the fire broke out early this morning, bringing parts of the transport network to a halt. An official update warned: “NEW: A fire in the Heathrow area means trains are currently unable to call at #HeathrowTerminals.”

By 8:12 am, services restarted between Heathrow Terminals and Paddington – but delays of up to 30 minutes and cancellations remain likely as the network recovers.

Free Travel Alternatives Offered

To ease disruption, National Rail announced travellers can use alternative transport without extra cost:

  • Elizabeth Line tickets accepted on the Piccadilly Line, local buses between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow, Great Western Railway (Paddington–Reading), and South Western Railway (Waterloo–Reading).
  • Heathrow Express tickets valid on local buses between Hayes & Harlington and London.

Passengers Frustrated, Heathrow Silent

Frustrated commuters vented on social media as journeys dragged on. Heathrow Airport has yet to comment on the incident. This fire comes just days after a fatal crash near Feltham involving a bus and car that sparked another fire, adding to travel woes around the airport.

Travel Advice: Check Before You Go

Passengers heading through Heathrow today should check travel updates before setting off. National Rail advises using alternative routes and allowing plenty of extra time. More updates will follow as the situation develops.
