A yellow weather warning is in force from midnight to 9pm on Thursday, October 23, as heavy rain drenches parts of England and Wales. But that’s not all – brace yourself for fierce winds sweeping in from 9am until 11pm the same day.
Storm Warning: Winds Roaring Up to 60mph Could Wreak Havoc
The Met Office is sounding the alarm with a “medium likelihood” of relentless downpours, especially battering southern Britain. Coastal hotspots are in the firing line, with gusts possibly reaching 50 to 60mph on exposed headlands. Inland? Don’t breathe easy – winds of 40 to 45mph are widely expected.
“In association with the rain, conditions are expected to turn windy with a chance of gales, initially along southern and eastern coasts, but more widely across southern Britain during Thursday daytime,” warned the Met Office.
Travel Chaos and Power Cuts Loom
Get ready for major disruption across transport and utilities:
- Long delays or cancellations on roads, rail, air, and ferries
- Buildings may suffer damage – tiles could be ripped right off roofs
- Power cuts likely, hitting phone coverage and essential services
- Flying debris, huge waves, and coastal flooding pose serious risks
- Roads and bridges might shut due to flooding or wind damage
- Some homes and businesses face flooding risk
Drivers: watch out for slick, flooded roads. Accident rates could spike big time.
