Kent Fire Service Shines in Latest HMICFRS Inspection
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has been hailed as one of the UK’s best after a glowing report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS).
Top Marks for Safety and Efficiency
Inspectors praised KFRS for being “excellent in its performance in keeping people safe and secure from fires and other risks.” The service earned a ‘good’ rating for both effectiveness and how it treats staff, with an ‘outstanding’ score for efficiency.

- People: Support for employees and volunteers.
- Efficiency: Exceptional use of public funds, resources, and equipment.
The report also highlighted a “positive working culture,” with senior leaders seen as role models promoting the right values. Staff feel empowered and confident to challenge issues, driving continuous improvement.
Leaders Praise Dedicated Team
“I’m pleased and very proud that an independent body has assessed our performance in this way,” said Ann Millington, Chief Executive of KFRS. “Our teams worked extremely hard to raise the bar and were awarded ‘outstanding’ overall for efficiency, as well as in other areas such as culture and risk understanding.”
Millington added: “While this is a positive report, it is critical that we continue to improve and develop the services we provide to everyone. We are constantly striving to do more and be better.”
She praised the workforce for their dedication: “Every member of KFRS genuinely cares and wants to do the right thing. They are committed to saving lives.”

His Majesty’s Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services Roy Wilsher also congratulated the service: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service understands risk thoroughly and prioritises accordingly, demonstrating very innovative and clear planning.”
