Firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) rushed to a major fire at a derelict laundry on Alma Road, Lancing, this evening. Flames tore through the building, sparking a full emergency response.

Firefighters Battle Blaze with Full Force

A WSFRS spokesman said, “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are attacking the fire using main jets, hose reels, and a covering jet to get it under control. The road is closed to keep emergency staff safe.”

They urged locals to avoid the area while crews work, saying: “We would urge people to steer clear of the scene for the time being.”

Arson Suspected – Police Launch Investigation

Police are treating the fire as arson, signalling a criminal probe is underway. Authorities have warned residents remain cautious and keep away from the area to help emergency services operate safely.

A police source advised: “There’s no risk to the wider public at this stage, but if anyone spots suspicious activity, they should call 999 immediately.”
