M25 Chaos as Lorry Blaze Sparks Huge Delays in Kent
Lorry Fire Halts Traffic Both Ways
Commuters faced a nightmare on the M25 in Kent this morning after a lorry burst into flames. The fire broke out between Junctions 4 and 5 clockwise, and Junctions 6 and 5 anti-clockwise, forcing National Highways to hold all traffic in both directions. Emergency services swiftly raced to the scene to control the blaze.
Major Road Closures Spark Gridlock
The link road from the M25 clockwise to the A21 southbound was shut down, adding to the traffic chaos. Although Kent Fire and Rescue Service has extinguished the fire, the A21 link road remains closed at this time.
“@kentfirerescue have got the fire under control. Traffic on the #M25 in #Kent has been released J4-J5 clockwise and J6-5 anti-clockwise. The link roads from the #M25 onto the #A21 south remain CLOSED at this stage.” – National Highways South-East
Delays Still Wreak Havoc on Morning Commute
Despite reopening the main carriageways, drivers are still stuck in long queues, with delays of up to 60 minutes expected in both directions. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, consider alternative routes, and check live travel updates before hitting the road.
No Injuries, Investigation Underway
Thankfully, nobody was hurt in the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation into what sparked the fire. National Highways will provide further updates as clean-up and recovery efforts continue.
