Crash Chaos! Nine-Hour Shutdown on M2 Between Sittingbourne and Faversham

A serious smash on the M2 coastbound triggered a massive nine-hour closure between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham). Motorists were left stranded for hours on one of Kent’s busiest roads.

The collision happened around 4:45 PM on Sunday, February 16, causing major chaos for evening drivers.

Emergency Airlift and Timely Rescue

Kent Police, paramedics, and fire crews rushed to the scene after a vehicle slammed into a barrier on the eastbound carriageway.

A woman with serious injuries was airlifted by helicopter to a London hospital. Meanwhile, a male passenger was taken by road ambulance to a local hospital.

The M2 eastbound was fully closed for a time to allow for rescue efforts and vehicle recovery. One lane reopened by 8:45 PM, but the other stayed shut overnight for barrier repairs and a messy oil spill cleanup.

Thankfully, the woman’s injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Motorists Left Frustrated as Traffic Gridlocks

Drivers faced massive delays and long queues as traffic came to a standstill for hours. The chaos caused headaches for commuters trying to navigate the busy route.

London-Bound Lanes Also Hit By Separate Smash

The London-bound carriageway wasn’t spared, seeing heavy delays from a different collision earlier the same day.

Highways crews worked through the night fixing barriers and clearing oil spill remnants left by the crashes.

Motorists are urged to check travel updates and seek alternative routes where possible.
