No Smoke Alarms and Careless Cigarette Behind Flames
Fire investigators revealed the flat had no working smoke alarms — a deadly oversight. The blaze was likely sparked by unsafe disposal of smoking materials.
“We urge all smokers to fully extinguish cigarettes after use,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson. “Neglecting this can cause devastating fires, risking lives and causing huge property damage.”
Rapid Response from Local Fire Stations Saves the Day
Firefighters from East Greenwich, Greenwich, and Eltham stations raced to the scene. They brought the fire under control by 4:29pm, preventing further destruction.
The Brigade reminded the public of the vital role functioning smoke alarms play in alerting residents early to fire dangers. They stressed staying vigilant and following safety measures to keep homes and lives safe.
