Test and Trace Blunder Sparks Quarantine Chaos
Hundreds hit by a major Test and Trace cock-up. The software slipped up, handing out the wrong quarantine start and end dates to contacts of Covid-positive cases. The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) revealed that a total of 7,230 people across England were affected.
Most got corrected advice on when to end their self-isolation. But 2,455 unlucky folks had already completed their quarantine before authorities could reach them.
Sir Patrick Defends Grim Covid Death Predictions
Government’s top scientist Sir Patrick Vallance faced tough questions at the Science and Technology Committee over his alarming model showing a potential 4,000 daily Covid deaths at the height of the second wave.
- One MP said the model might have “frightened a lot of people around the country.”
- Sir Patrick fired back: “That was not my intention.”
- He added, “I positioned that as a scenario from a few weeks ago, to get a new reasonable worst-case scenario.”
- He stressed the figure was a model, not a forecast, and dismissed claims it was based on outdated data: “I don’t think it is fair to say it is discredited.”
Public Left in Limbo Over Confusing Quarantine Advice
The software slip-up has sown confusion, leaving thousands uncertain about their isolation periods. While many were quickly corrected, thousands had already finished quarantine, potentially disrupting efforts to halt the virus’s spread.
This error adds to the growing frustration over Test and Trace’s effectiveness, as Britain braces for more Covid chaos.
