Scotland reported a sharp rise with 83 new deaths, bringing the total to 1,415. ICU admissions have climbed to 114 patients battling the virus. Northern Ireland’s fatalities remained stable, with no new deaths reported today.
Scotland’s COVID-19 Daily Trends: Pressure on Services
- On 27 April, Scotland’s 111 Helpline received 3,460 calls, with 495 to the dedicated Coronavirus Helpline.
- Scottish Ambulance Service attended 1,531 cases, 343 suspected COVID-19. They transported 225 suspected cases to hospital.
- 580 patients experienced delayed discharge — down by 1,032 since early March. Reduction targets for hospital delays have been met ahead of schedule.
Care Homes Struggling as Outbreaks Continue
- 538 adult care homes (50%) have reported at least one suspected COVID-19 case to the Care Inspectorate.
- 354 homes have multiple suspected cases.
- 384 care homes (35%) currently battling outbreaks with residents showing symptoms in the last 14 days.
- Total suspected cases in care homes hit 2,935 — an increase of 204 from the previous day.
Staff Shortages and Patient Discharges
- 6,774 NHS staff (about 4.1%) are off work due to COVID-19 related reasons.
- Since 5 March, 2,448 COVID-19 positive patients have been discharged from hospital — rising from 2,380 the day before.
