Hospitals Brace for Chaos as Doctors Launch Three-Day Strike
England’s hospitals are on high alert as junior doctors and consultants gear up for a massive three-day strike. Starting 7am, non-emergency care is set to grind to a near halt, NHS England warns.
Emergency Care To Run, But Barely
The British Medical Association (BMA) promises “Christmas Day” level cover for emergencies, but outside of that, staffing will be skeleton at best. Together, junior doctors and consultants make up about 80% of hospital doctors. Yet, with a third not in the BMA, some might skip the strike.
Strike Madness: History Repeats Itself
This isn’t the first joint strike. Less than two weeks ago, the same groups walked out together — but only for 24 hours. Previous strikes saw them walk out on different days. Now, the industrial action is ramping up again.
What Patients Need To Know
- If it’s an emergency, head to A&E or dial 999 as usual.
- For other health issues, use NHS 111 or your GP, but expect delays.
- Some junior doctors are also GP trainees, so disruptions could hit GP services too.
- Non-urgent appointments may be postponed—patients should have been notified.
The NHS warns the situation could change quickly as it battles the fallout of these strikes. Stay tuned for updates.
