Kent Police Crack Down on Speeders for Global Road Safety Week
Global Road Safety Week runs from Monday 17 May to Sunday 23 May 2021, pushing for lower speed limits where people and traffic collide in cities worldwide.
Pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and other two-wheeler users are the most vulnerable, making up a huge chunk of those killed or seriously injured in crashes—especially on 30mph local roads.
Speeding: A Deadly Threat on Local Roads
Kent Police are zeroing in on speeding hotspots during peak times on 30mph streets. Inspector Thomas Pooley warned: “Speeding is one of the ‘fatal four’ causes of crashes we target daily.” The others? Mobile phone use, drink or drug-driving, and not wearing seatbelts.
He added: “Speed limits exist for a reason. A small drop in speed can save lives and cut collision risks.”
High Visibility Patrols and Swift Penalties
This week, expect boosted patrols and static speed checks in neighbourhood trouble spots. Repeat offenders face Traffic Offence Reports, fines, points on their licence, or even court. Some may escape harsher punishment by attending speed awareness courses.
Kent Police are sending a clear message: slow down or pay up. The safety of local communities depends on it.
