Tragedy at Sydney Station: Dad Dies Saving Twin Toddlers from Train
A family outing turned into a nightmare at Carlton railway station in southern Sydney on Sunday. A pram carrying twin two-year-old girls rolled into the path of an oncoming train. One toddler and her heroic father were killed instantly.
Pram Rolls Towards Tracks—Cause Unknown
New South Wales police superintendent Paul Dunstan revealed the family had just stepped off a lift onto the platform. They briefly took their hands off the pram, which then began rolling dangerously towards the train tracks. The exact cause remains unclear, with strong winds a possible culprit.
Heroic Father Loses Life Trying to Save Daughters
The train, not scheduled to stop, slowed but couldn’t avoid the pram. Emergency crews arrived minutes later to find one twin had miraculously survived by landing between the rails, “largely untouched” as the train passed over her. Sadly, her sister was killed on impact.
The 40-year-old father died trying to rescue his daughters. Superintendent Dunstan praised his valiant effort: “It’s an incredibly brave and heroic act by the dad. In doing so, it’s cost him his life.”
Family in Shock as Community Mourns
The mother and surviving child were rushed to St. George Hospital and are reported to be stable. The 39-year-old mother is in shock, comforted by family and the local Indian community.
NSW Premier Chris Minns offered condolences, saluting the father’s sacrifice:
“I hope over time they can gain some small solace knowing that the father died from an extraordinary, instinctive act of bravery.”
The community remains reeling from the tragic loss as investigations continue into how the pram rolled onto the tracks.
