London Ambulance Service (LAS) has stepped up big time, donating 59 old ambulances to war-torn Ukraine. These frontline vehicles, retired as part of LAS’s fleet upgrade, are now racing to save lives on the ground, helping both soldiers and civilians caught in the conflict.

Old Ambulances, New Mission

Once destined for the scrapyard, LAS’s decommissioned ambulances have found a new lease of life. Handed over to the charity British-Ukrainian Aid, the latest batch of nine ambulances has just hit the 123, where volunteers then pushed them over the border into Ukraine.

A dedicated team of 26 LAS volunteers covered 1,100 miles in just three days. They hauled life-saving kit like ventilators, tourniquets, wound dressings, syringe pumps, blizzard blankets, and PPE, much of it donated by NHS groups across London.

Since then, more ambulances have rolled out with help from Ukrainian drivers, reaching the hardest-hit zones.

“Every Bit Helps on the Frontline”

Nadia Pylypchuk from British-Ukrainian Aid praised the lifesaving deliveries:

“In 1, every piece of equipment or help counts – big or small. We cannot thank the London Ambulance Service enough. These ambulances are actively used on the frontline and for civilian care – they’re truly saving lives.”

And LAS isn’t alone. The London Fire Brigade recently chipped in with crucial equipment including over 140 folding roof ladders, goggles, overalls, and breathing apparatus supplies.

As conflict rages on, UK emergency services continue to be a vital lifeline for those caught in the crossfire, delivering practical support right where it’s needed.
