Blaze Destroys Half of Romford Car Workshop
A huge fire tore through a car repair workshop in Romford last night, gutting half the single-storey building. Flames erupted just before 6pm on Faringdon Avenue, sparking a major emergency response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and Essex County Fire and Rescue.
70 Firefighters Battle Fierce Flames
London’s fire crews rapidly dispatched 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters from stations including Harold Hill, Romford, Hornchurch, Ilford, Dagenham, and Woodford. Essex County Fire and Rescue also sent multiple units to back up the London teams. The blaze was finally brought under control at 7.51pm after nearly two hours of intense firefighting.
Massive Damage and Investigation Underway
“Half of a single-storey car workshop was destroyed by the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.”
Witnesses shared chilling images of thick black smoke billowing into the evening sky as crews fought the inferno with hoses and aerial ladders. So far, no injuries have been confirmed, but emergency services have not ruled out the possibility. The extent of damage to nearby properties and vehicles is also being assessed.
Residents Warned to Steer Clear
Authorities have urged residents and motorists to avoid the area while fire crews continue work. Roads near Faringdon Avenue remain partially closed for safety as investigators prepare to return for a full probe into the blaze’s cause.
