Beloved Defib the Cat Faces Eviction After 16 Years at London Ambulance Station

Defib the cat has been a fixture at the Walthamstow ambulance station for 16 years, loved by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) staff who rescued him as a kitten. But now a management shake-up could see Defib kicked out, sparking a fierce public campaign to save him.

Staff Rally to Save Defib

Defib has been a source of comfort and companionship at the busy station for over a decade. As he gets older, staff insist forcing this senior cat to move would be “unnecessary and cruel.” They highlight how therapy animals have become widely accepted in workplaces and argue Defib has earned the right to stay where he feels at home.

The Save Defib the Cat campaign has rallied huge public support, urging LAS to rethink their decision. Supporters can contact the campaign via email at defib@savedefib to help keep Defib safe.

London Ambulance Service Weighs Defib’s Safety

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We are looking for a worthy retirement home for Defib. As he’s got older, his reactions have slowed and he’s had several near-misses being run over by ambulances at the busy station. Some staff also have severe allergies and cannot use the station during their breaks.”

“We’re exploring options for a loving home more suitable for a cat his age. This is being treated as Defib’s own retirement plan from the LAS.”

Will Defib Get to Spend His Golden Years at Home?

Defib’s carers remain hopeful that public pressure will persuade LAS to let the beloved feline stay where he’s been family for 16 years. After all the comfort and joy he’s given, they believe Defib deserves nothing less than a peaceful retirement in his own home.
