Massive Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts A2 Near Gravesend – Drivers Brace for Chaos

Motorists are trapped in severe delays after a serious multi-vehicle pile-up on the A2 eastbound near Gravesend. The crash has sparked a full road closure, causing long tailbacks all the way back to Dartford.

Emergency Crews Battle to Clear Scene After Early Morning Horror

The collision happened at around 7:30 AM, involving multiple vehicles including one that overturned. Kent Police and National Highways officers are at the scene, working tirelessly to clear wreckage and assess injuries. No official casualty figures have been released yet.

Diversions In Place – Follow The Solid Circle Sign

Drivers heading coastbound must follow official diversion routes to avoid the chaos. The “Solid Circle” diversion sends traffic off the A2 at Marling Cross junction, guiding drivers via Gravesend, Valley Drive, and the A226 towards Rochester before rejoining the A2 or switching to the M2 motorways as appropriate.

  1. Exit A2 at Marling Cross junction for Gravesend (E).
  2. Take the second exit at the roundabout, then the first exit onto Valley Drive.
  3. Continue about two miles to the T-junction with traffic lights.
  4. Turn right onto B261 Old Road East.
  5. At the roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the A226 eastbound.
  6. Continue 3.5 miles on the A226, passing Higham to the A289/Gads Hill Interchange.
  7. Non-motorway traffic follow second exit, then first exit, rejoining A2.
  8. Motorway traffic take second exits at roundabouts to join A289 southbound, then M2.

National Highways has issued a serious warning: congestion now stretches back to Dartford, with heavy delays expected for the foreseeable future.
