Emergency scramble on Sussex coast as three major rescue operations kick off
Worthing Mystery Ends Safely
At 5:16pm on Wednesday, Shoreham RNLI’s All-Weather Lifeboat was scrambled after reports of a missing person near Worthing.
A HM Coastguard spokesperson confirmed the search was called off once the individual was found safe and sound.
Red Flare Sparks Intense Search at Brighton Marina
Moments later, Shoreham ALB and Brighton RNLI lifeboat were redirected to Brighton Marina following reports of a person in the water.
The alarm was raised after a red flare was spotted from a nearby vessel, prompting a full-scale search involving Coastguard Rescue Units and Solent’s Rescue Helicopter 175.
It remains unclear if anyone was found, with updates awaited from HM Coastguard and the RNLI.
Hair-raising Cliff Rescue Underway at Beachy Head
The most serious incident is unfolding near Beachy Head, where a vehicle has plunged off the cliff into the sea below.
Eastbourne RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat and local Coastguard teams, backed by a helicopter from Lydd, are on scene.
The driver is reported alive but trapped inside the partially submerged vehicle. Fire crews are battling to free them using cutting gear in a tricky rescue operation.
