Sainsbury’s and Tesco Tech Glitch Sparks Chaos for Sussex Shoppers
Sussex shoppers were left fuming today as a major technical meltdown hit both Sainsbury’s and Tesco. Online orders were cancelled en masse, while payment systems went haywire across the two supermarket giants.
Software Update Blamed for Payment Hassles
Sainsbury’s blamed an overnight software update for the chaos, which scrambled contactless payments and online deliveries. A spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience and are working hard to fix the issues.” Despite the troubles, all Sainsbury’s stores stayed open and most chip and pin transactions carried on smoothly.
Argos Also Caught in Crossfire
Argos, a Sainsbury’s subsidiary, wasn’t spared either. Its customers struggled with online orders and in-store collections. Meanwhile, Tesco admitted to its own technical issues, cancelling several online deliveries slated for today.
Shoppers Forced to Go Old School with Cash
Frustrated shoppers took to social media to vent. One from Crawley revealed Sainsbury’s couldn’t accept card payments. Another in Newhaven said cash was king as card readers and popular payment apps like Apple Pay and Google Pay failed them.
Both supermarkets promised swift fixes and offered free reorder options for affected customers. Meanwhile, customers were urged to watch their emails for updates on deliveries as bosses scrambled to restore service.
