Driving Lessons and Tests Set to Resume on Isle of Wight
Since the third national lockdown hit in early 2021, learner drivers have been stuck sidelined—no lessons, no tests. But now, the DVSA is gearing up to get Brits back behind the wheel, with provisional dates announced following the Prime Minister’s roadmap.
All dates hinge on the Government’s review on 5th April, but with falling COVID-19 cases and deaths, change seems unlikely.
Lessons Restart from 12th April
Good news for Isle of Wight learners! Driving lessons with instructors will kick off again on Monday 12th April. After months of lockdown frustration, drivers can finally hit the road with a pro.
Tests Resume from 22nd April
Driving tests are due to restart from Thursday 22nd April. The DVSA has wisely scheduled tests 10 days after lessons return, giving learners extra time for prep. If you’re already booked for a test before 22nd April, expect an email from the DVSA to reschedule.
Theory Tests Back on 12th April
The first hurdle for new drivers, the theory test, will also bounce back on 12th April. Anyone booked before this date will be contacted by the DVSA to rearrange.
Practice Driving with Family Allowed Before Lessons Resume
While waiting for lessons to restart, you can keep practising in your own car with a qualified household member—but only for essential journeys, like grocery shopping.
Come 29th March, the strict ‘Stay at Home’ rule ends. This means learner drivers living together can practice without limitations ahead of formal lessons restarting on 12th April.
