New Volunteer First Responders Gear Up to Save Lives
Last August’s batch of volunteer Community First Responders (CFRs) have now been signed up for the brand new FutureQuals Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene.
Some Already Qualified and Equipped
Several volunteers have already bagged their qualifications and are fully trained and kitted out, ready to rush to life-threatening emergencies in their local areas. The rest will complete their training throughout the year.
Local Heroes Without Sirens
CFRs use their own cars—no blue lights or sirens—but their local knowledge lets them arrive fast, often within minutes. They deliver critical enhanced first aid while awaiting the Ambulance Service, sometimes making the crucial difference between life and death.
Boosting Care Across the Island
The surge in CFR numbers across the island promises a major uplift to patient care and experience. Louise Walker, Ambulance Education, Training & Engagement Lead, said:
“It’s been wonderful to see so many new recruits embark on the CFR journey despite the challenges faced due to the pandemic. We are very lucky to have such committed enthusiastic individuals, they truly are an asset to our community.”
