UK Braced for Thunderstorms as Flood Alerts Soar
Warm spells are giving way to wild weather across the UK. A series of heavy rain and storms have sparked 25 flood alerts in England, with more warnings sounding in Scotland.
Storms to Hit Almost Entire UK Today
Weather maps show storms stretching from northern Scotland down to England’s south coast. Ventusky confirms the whole country, including Northern Ireland, faces fierce weather later today.
Thunderstorms are expected to peak between 4 and 7 p.m., bringing heavy rain, lightning, and thunder.
Flooding and Travel Chaos Loom
Scattered showers kicked off the day in the Midlands and moved north to Scotland. Regions in the South West and Northern Ireland also faced wet starts.
Rain will spread across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland in the afternoon, with the east coast — from newcastle/" title="Newcastle" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Newcastle to Norwich — at risk of early heavy downpours and storm hotspots.
Storms will push across the rest of England and into parts of Scotland by evening but should ease by 10 p.m.
Official Weather Warning Issued
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, forecasting heavy rain and potential disruptions. Travel could be affected, with possible impacts to railway services and roads.
“Possible lightning damage to a few buildings and structures” is also warned, urging caution across the UK.
