Major chaos on the roads this morning as a lorry crash shuts the M1 and A14 in both directions. Early reports reveal a lorry slammed into the barrier on the M1 southbound at junction 19, Catthorpe Interchange, leaving part of the vehicle teetering over the carriageway edge.

Lorry Crash Sparks Road Closures

Police rushed to the scene at 4:37am on Monday, April 24, after the collision was reported. Thankfully, the driver escaped unhurt and left the vehicle safely.

The crash has forced the closure of the M1 southbound carriageway at junction 19 and the A14 beneath it, causing severe disruption across the area.

All emergency teams and recovery crews are currently battling to clear the wreck and secure the scene. Traffic officers have put in place strategic closures and diversion routes to handle the fallout.

Drivers are urged to follow the solid square diversion symbol and avoid the affected areas:

  • Exit the M1 at Junction 20 and take the 3rd exit onto the A4303.
  • Continue 0.5km to the A4303/A426 1 Road/Lutterworth Road roundabout.
  • Take the second exit (straight ahead) westbound on A4303 through two roundabouts at Coventry Road and Magna Park to the A5/A4303 Cross in Hand Roundabout.
  • At Cross in Hand, take first exit (left) onto A5 south.
  • Drive 4km to the A5/A426 Gibbets Hill Roundabout.
  • Take second exit (straight ahead) southbound for 9km to the A5 Danesway Roundabout.
  • At Danesway, take second exit (south) on A5 for 1km to the A5/A428 Parklands Roundabout.
  • Take second exit onto A428 and continue to M1 Junction 18, then rejoin the M1 southbound.
