Ex-Met Cop Ajay Singh Jailed Over Harassment of Colleagues
Former PC Ajay Singh, 24, has been slammed at Woolwich Crown Court for harassing five of his own colleagues – four women and one man. The North Area Command Unit officer plead guilty back in May and was sentenced on Thursday, 14 October.
Suspended Jail and Tough Penalties
Singh received a suspended prison sentence for two years. He must also stump up compensation to his victims and complete 250 hours of unpaid community work. A restraining order has been slapped on him to keep him away from the victims.
Off-Duty Menace: Harassing Calls Unmasked
In October 2020, Singh bombarded his colleagues with malicious and threatening calls from a ‘no caller ID’ number. The victims endured direct threats, personal insults, and verbal abuse, all from someone they trusted at work.
One victim reported the abuse on 19 October 2020. Police investigation quickly traced the calls back to Singh’s phone. He was arrested the very same day and later charged in March 2021 after further offences came to light.
Met Police Slam Singh’s “Reprehensible” Conduct
Singh was suspended from duty the day after his first arrest and officially dismissed from the Met in August 2021 for gross misconduct.
“The actions of former PC Singh were reprehensible, particularly given they were committed against his own colleagues. They had a significant negative impact on his victims,” said Superintendent Simon Crick of Enfield and Haringey policing. “His motive for these malicious offences remains unclear. This kind of conduct has no place in the Met.”
