Man Plunges 20ft at Trevone Roundhole – Dramatic Coastguard Rescue!

Rescue teams from Padstow and Newquay swung into action after a man fell 20 feet while exploring the notorious roundhole at Trevone. The incident unfolded as the injured man’s companion stayed by his side, waiting for help.

Cliff Rescue Team Performs Rapid Response

A cliff rescue technician from Padstow was lowered to the scene to quickly assess the man’s condition. Realising the severity, paramedics from South West Ambulance were also lowered via an assisted descent to provide vital medical aid.

Helicopter Airlift to Derriford Hospital

With the man too injured for a traditional coastguard rescue, the HM Coastguard’s Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched the Newquay search and rescue helicopter. The casualty was winched aboard and flown to Derriford Hospital. Meanwhile, his friend and the paramedic were safely brought back up by cliff rescue technicians.

Safety Warning from Senior Coastal Officer

Phil Davies, senior coastal operations officer, said: “We always advise people not to attempt self-rescue in these situations. The man’s friend did exactly the right thing by staying put while help was called. Our coastline is stunning but can be deadly. Recent conditions have made cliff paths slippery and unstable.”

“Make sure you’re fully equipped for any adventure and stay vigilant. If you’re in trouble or spot someone else, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.”
