Traffic Officers Smash 500-Mile Spin Challenge for Charity
Highways England traffic officers in the South West have gone the extra mile—literally—to raise cash for the Huntington’s Disease Association. Over 24 intense hours, the team hopped on spin bikes aiming to cycle 350 miles, matching the stretch of motorway and major roads they patrol.
Biking for a Cause: 502 Miles and Counting
Not only did the team hit their target, but they smashed it, clocking an impressive 502 miles at the South West Regional Operations Centre in Avonmouth. Support poured in on social media from celeb fans like actor Shane Richie and singer Tony Hadley, boosting morale during the challenge.

Raising Awareness for Huntington’s Disease
“The Huntington’s Disease Association is a charity close to our hearts and we really wanted to do something to raise awareness of the disease,” said Avonmouth Operations Manager Sean Dowding. “The support we received from across the South West, and beyond, plus social media shout-outs from Shane Richie and Tony Hadley really kept us going.”
Huntington’s Disease is a hereditary nervous system disorder that causes serious cognitive, emotional, and psychological changes. It affects around 12 people in every 100,000 across the UK.
