Tragedy on the M40: Two Dead, Dozens Hurt in Massive Crash
Disaster struck the M40 near High Wycombe today as a multi-vehicle pile-up left two people dead and 12 others injured. The horror unfolded around 8.15 a.m. this Sunday morning, grinding the busy motorway to a standstill.
M40 Shutdown and Rescue Efforts Underway
The southbound M40 is closed between Junction 5 at Stokenchurch and Junction 4 for High Wycombe. Both carriageways were initially shut, but police reopened one lane just after 11 a.m. to ease gridlock. However, delays of up to 30 minutes are still reported.
Thames Valley Police confirmed they are investigating the collision before clearing the wreckage. A National Highways spokesperson said, “Once the investigation is complete, vehicle recovery and clean-up will begin.”
Ambulance Crews Battle to Save Lives
A spokesperson from South Central Ambulance Service revealed a massive emergency response:
- Three ambulances
- Hazardous Area Response Team
- Air ambulance and emergency car
- Paramedic team leaders and officers
“We treated many patients on-site, with several rushed to hospital for further care,” the spokesperson added.
