Brighton Chairman Tony Bloom Scoops MBE in King’s New Year Honours
Tony Bloom, the man steering Brighton & Hove Albion to new heights, has bagged an MBE in the 2024 King’s New Year Honours. The local lad has been recognised for his massive impact on football and for giving back to the Brighton community.
From Brighton Boy to Football Legend
Born and bred in Brighton in 1970, Tony’s roots run deep. Growing up in a die-hard Albion family, he caught the football bug early. His grandad Harry, dad Ronnie, and brother Darren all shared the love at the Goldstone Ground.
The Bloom family has been part of Albion’s story since the 1970s. Grandad Harry was vice-chairman during the club’s rise from the Third to the First Division, and Tony’s uncle Ray has kept the family flag flying as a director since the 1980s.
Tony’s Thanks and Triumphs
“I’m incredibly proud and truly humbled to receive this recognition. While I’m honoured personally, none of this would have been possible without so many people who’ve helped us achieve what we have.”
“Thanks to our directors, staff, coaches, and players — it’s been a historic year, and this award is the perfect end to an unforgettable 12 months.”
Driving Brighton’s Rise and Giving Back
Tony has poured his heart and wallet into the club’s leap forward. He bankrolled the American Express Stadium, opened in 2011, and the cutting-edge American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, launched in 2014.
His efforts earned him the European Club President of the Year title at the Golden Boy Awards after Brighton’s record sixth-place finish last season. Other honours include the Freedom of the City of Brighton and Hove in 2017 and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Brighton in 2018. Tony’s legacy is firmly cemented both on the pitch and off.
