Rishi Sunak Slams Heinous Attacks in Israel: Nearly 200 Hostages Taken, Including Babies
Sunak Demands Immediate Release of Hostages
In a chilling address to the House of Commons, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the brutal attacks in Israel. He revealed almost 200 people have been taken hostage, with horrifying reports of elderly men, women, children, and even babies being “murdered, mutilated, and burned alive.” Some family members of the missing sat visibly shaken in the Commons gallery as Sunak spoke.
“We call for the immediate release of all hostages,” Sunak demanded. He confirmed at least six British citizens were killed, with another ten still missing. The UK government vowed full support to those affected by the tragedy.
Solidarity Pledges to Jewish and Muslim Communities
Sunak delivered a strong message of unity, addressing the British Jewish community directly: “We stand with you now and always.” The House erupted in agreement. He labelled the attacks an “existential strike” against Israel as a safe homeland, announcing £3 million to boost security at Jewish community buildings. Police will crack down hard on hate crimes and any glorification of terrorism.
Turning to British Muslim communities, Sunak stressed the need to listen to their concerns while condemning Hamas. “Let’s say it plainly. We stand with British Muslim communities too,” he declared, winning applause across the chamber.
Backing Israel’s Right to Defend With Caution
The PM reaffirmed the UK’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself but urged restraint. Any defence measures “must be in line with international humanitarian law,” he insisted, calling for all precautions to protect civilians in a tense conflict zone.
To stabilise the region, Britain is reinforcing forces in Cyprus and ramping up aid efforts. Sunak also revealed recent talks with Middle Eastern leaders, including King Abdullah of Jordan and heads of state from Turkey and Egypt, to prevent the violence from spiralling further.
Hamas Condemned as UK Calls for Peace
Ending his speech, Sunak fiercely condemned Hamas for the attacks, echoing global G7 leaders’ calls for restraint and justice. His heartfelt plea for peace resonated through Parliament, as the UK stood firmly in support of all those affected, pledging to stop further bloodshed at every turn.
