Chaos at Poland-Belarus Border as Migrants Clash with Guards

Violence Erupts as Migrants Attack Polish Officers

Poland’s Border Guard confirmed chaotic scenes at the border, reporting that migrants hurled objects at security forces. In tweets, the agency revealed water cannons were deployed “against aggressive foreigners” in a desperate attempt to regain control.

Police confirmed a serious injury to an officer during the fracas. They blamed Belarus for stirring up the violence. “Unfortunately, as a result of an attack by people inspired by the Belarusian side, a police officer has been seriously injured,” they said on Twitter.

Calls for Calm and Humanitarian Aid

Dunja Mijatovic, the human rights commissioner for the Council of Europe, urged for de-escalation and better access to the border for aid workers and the media. “We need to step aside and think what is happening at the European border,” she said. “Why are these people left in limbo and what can be done to stop this extremely dangerous situation?”

She slammed Belarus’s role, calling its transporting of refugees to the border “absolutely unacceptable.”

Access Restricted and Media Blocked

Poland’s state of emergency restrictions have blocked journalists from independently verifying events at the border, raising concerns about transparency.
