Police Assaulted in Early Morning Rampage in Newington

Chaos erupted at 6am on Sunday, 22 October 2023, when officers responded to a disturbance on Church Lane, Newington. Four constables were attacked after checking on a woman’s welfare. One officer suffered serious facial injuries. Paramedics treated the injured at the scene while two needed further medical care.

Seven Arrested After Brutal Police Attack

Following the violence, four men and three women were arrested on suspicion of assault and public order offences. Luke Crowley, 32, from Lowe Road, Canning Town, London, faces charges of wounding a police officer with intent to stop the arrest of another, plus a public order offence. He was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 24 October.

Women Charged With Assault and Public Order Offences

  • Lauren Walsh, 20, of Winstanley Road, Sheerness
  • Emma Tatham, 30, of Church Lane, Sittingbourne
  • Kerry Crowley, 52, also of Church Lane

Walsh and Tatham face charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and public order offences. Kerry Crowley is charged with a public order offence alone. All three have been bailed to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 30 November.

Suspects Await Further Police Action

Two men aged 22 and 36 have been bailed to return to the police station on 23 January 2024. Another man was released without charge. The investigation into the shocking attack on officers continues.
