A field fire in Hernhill, Faversham, was successfully extinguished by Kent Fire and Rescue Service on Wednesday, 31 July 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 4.27pm, prompting the dispatch of five fire engines and a special support all-terrain vehicle to Monkshill Road. Crews utilized high-pressure hose reel jets and other wildfire equipment to tackle the blaze, which had spread through a field of cut grass.
The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by 5.27pm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
In light of this incident, Kent Fire and Rescue Service is reminding the public of the heightened fire risk during hot weather. Dry ground conditions can significantly increase the likelihood of fires starting and spreading.
Residents are urged to take precautions to help prevent fires:
- Avoid having bonfires during dry spells.
- Dispose of smoking materials responsibly.
- Take extra safety measures when using barbecues.
For those using disposable barbecues, ensure they are placed on a flat, non-flammable surface and only dispose of them once they are completely cold, either in a bin or at a designated waste site.
