Top Chef Murdered in Brutal Headbutt Attack Near Notting Hill Carnival
A beloved top chef was savagely headbutted and pummeled to death just yards from the Notting Hill Carnival, the Old Bailey heard today.
Violent Assault Ends in Tragedy
Omar Wilson, 31, appeared in court charged with the murder of 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu. The victim, a renowned chef who had worked with culinary heavyweights like Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing, was attacked near Queensway’s Dr Power restaurant on August 26, amid carnival chaos.
Prosecutors say Wilson launched a vicious assault after a heated argument, headbutting Mussie before raining punches down on him, even when he was on the ground.
Chef Dies After Four Days in Hospital
Mussie’s injuries were catastrophic. Found unconscious with severe head trauma, he was rushed to hospital but tragically died four days later, on August 30.
Wilson, from Leytonstone, was initially charged with grievous bodily harm, but the charge was swiftly upgraded to murder following Mussie’s death. At today’s hearing, Wilson only confirmed his name and birth date.
Prosecutors describe the assault as one with “all the hallmarks” of a serious violent attack.
Well-Known Chef Was on London Business Trip
Mussie Imnetu, based in Dubai, was in London on business and well-respected within the Turkish community. He had worked at the exclusive Arts Club in Mayfair, earning high praise across the culinary world.
Next Court Dates Set
Wilson remains in custody. A plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for November 25. The full trial is expected to kick off on February 3, 2025.
