A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to stabbing his stepfather to death in Hayes, following a dramatic armed standoff with police.
Adejuwon Olufemi Alexander Jnr Oyekan, of Melina Close, admitted to manslaughter through diminished responsibility at the Old Bailey on Monday, February 24. He will be sentenced in April.
Deadly Attack in Stepdad’s Home
The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of July 11, 2023, when police were called to reports of a stabbing at Melina Close.
When officers arrived, Oyekan was still armed with the knife he had used to attack his 54-year-old stepfather, Jason Thompson, inside Jason’s own home.
Armed Standoff and Arrest
First responders attempted to gain entry to the house and used tasers to subdue Oyekan. However, their efforts failed, prompting armed police to storm the property and take him into custody.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, Jason Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Oyekan was charged with murder the same day.
Tributes and Police Statement
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Semple from the Metropolitan Police’s Public Protection Partnership praised the bravery of officers at the scene, stating:
“Our thoughts remain with Jason’s family throughout this difficult time.
“I’d like to thank the first responding officers who attended the scene and demonstrated huge bravery to challenge the suspect, who was armed and acting aggressively.
“Their quick thinking, to use the tools at their disposal, guaranteed Oyekan was admitted to custody from the scene and did not go on to pose a wider threat to the public.”
Sentencing in April
Oyekan will be sentenced on Thursday, April 10 at the Old Bailey.
The case has shocked the local community, with many mourning the tragic death of Jason Thompson while awaiting the court’s final ruling on his killer’s fate.
