Step-son stabs stepdad to death in Hayes – guilty plea made

Deadly Attack Shakes Family Home

A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his stepfather in Hayes, sparking a tense armed standoff with police.

Adejuwon Olufemi Alexander Jnr Oyekan, from Melina Close, admitted manslaughter due to diminished responsibility at the Old Bailey on Monday, February 24. He faces sentencing in April.

The brutal attack happened in the early hours of July 11, 2023, when police were called to reports of a stabbing at Melina Close. Officers arrived to find Oyekan still wielding the knife used on his 54-year-old stepfather, Jason Thompson, inside his own home.

Armed Police Storm Property After Failed Taser Attempt

First responders struggled to gain entry and used tasers to try to subdue Oyekan, but he remained aggressive. Armed officers were forced to storm the house and arrest him.

Paramedics fought to save Jason Thompson, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Oyekan was charged with murder later that same day.

Police Praise Officers’ Bravery and Quick Action

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Semple of the Metropolitan Police’s Public Protection Partnership said:

“Our thoughts remain with Jason’s family throughout this difficult time.”

“I’d like to thank the first responding officers who attended the scene and demonstrated huge bravery to challenge the suspect, who was armed and acting aggressively.”

“Their quick thinking, to use the tools at their disposal, guaranteed Oyekan was admitted to custody from the scene and did not go on to pose a wider threat to the public.”

Sentencing Date Set for April

Oyekan will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, April 10.

The shocking killing has left the local community in mourning, awaiting the court’s final decision on the fate of Jason Thompson’s killer.
