A violent man who subjected his former partner to domestic abuse and also caused a police car to be written off has been jailed for eight years

Police were called on the evening of Thursday 8 February 2024 after a report that Alex Moore, 47, of Timberbank, Vigo, had threatened and attacked a former partner and a child.

Shortly after, officers arrived at the house and were able to follow Moore in his vehicle. They pulled him over, however after confirming his name, Moore sped away from officers, clipping the police car.

He continued to drive to Lower Rainham Road where he deliberately reversed and rammed into the police vehicle. This caused the car’s airbags to deploy and smoke to fill the cabin. One of the officers also sustained minor injuries.

Moore was found at the side of his vehicle and he was arrested in connection with the incidents.

Following the investigation, he was later charged several offences including possession of a bladed article in a public place, threats to kill and intentional strangulation.

He was also charged with assault of an emergency worker, drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop and destroying property with intent to endanger life.

He admitted the charges and was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday 12 July 2024, when he was sentenced to eight years. He was also handed an indefinite restraining order and a three-year driving ban which will come into force upon his release.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sam Strudwick said: ‘Moore subjected his former partner and a child to frightening behaviour which put them in fear for their lives.

‘Not only did he use physical force on them both, but he also used a knife to inflict more fear. He then put members of the public in danger by drink driving, causing him to drive dangerously through impaired judgement, which was evidenced by his behaviour in purposefully ramming the police car, causing it to be written off.

‘Kent Police always takes reports of domestic abuse seriously and we have specially trained officers who will ensure investigations are carried out carefully and sensitively. They can offer safeguarding advice and ensure measures are put in place to safeguard victims who need it.’
