Dramatic footage has captured the moment a London bus burst into flames on a residential street in Sutton, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Firefighters were called to Lind Road in Sutton, south London, shortly before 1pm on Friday, August 7, following multiple reports of a bus on fire. The single-decker bus was seen producing heavy smoke from its rear before flames engulfed part of the vehicle. All passengers managed to get off the bus before firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported.

Eight emergency calls made to London Fire Brigade

London Fire Brigade received the first of eight calls reporting the blaze at 12.59pm. Crews from Purley, Croydon, Wallington and Wimbledon fire stations were sent to the scene. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control before working to make the surrounding area safe. The incident was over for crews by 1.43pm, less than an hour after the first emergency call. The bus was left partially damaged by the fire.

Video recorded at the scene shows smoke pouring from the rear of the single-decker before flames suddenly erupt. A large plume of dark smoke could then be seen rising above nearby homes as emergency crews responded.   A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters responded to reports of a fire involving a bus on Lind Road, Sutton. “A single-deck bus was partially damaged as a result of the fire. All passengers left the vehicle before crews arrived. “Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked to make the scene safe. “The Brigade received the first of eight calls reporting the fire at 1259, and the incident was over for crews by 1343. “Firefighters from Purley, Croydon, Wallington and Wimbledon fire stations attended the scene.” There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
