Detectives are appealing for information as they investigate the unexplained death of a 60-year-old woman who was found inside her home in Croydon after being reported missing. Nicole Beling was reported missing by a family member at around 12.05am on July 17, prompting police to classify her as a high-risk missing person. Officers attended her home in Dittoncroft Close, near Lloyd Park, later that morning as part of enquiries into her disappearance. Following a search of the property, officers discovered Nicole’s body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man arrested on suspicion of murder
A 61-year-old man was arrested at the property on suspicion of murder on July 17 and subsequently released under investigation. Police arrested him for a second time on August 1. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue. Despite the arrests, detectives have stressed that a formal murder investigation has not been launched. Nicole’s death is currently being treated as unexplained and investigators are keeping an open mind about the circumstances surrounding it. Her cause of death remains under investigation. Specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the enquiries, while Nicole’s family are being supported by officers. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell said: “A formal murder investigation has not been launched at this time and we are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding Nicole’s sad death. “We want to hear from anyone who knew Nicole or may have information that could assist the investigation – and help us find answers for her family. “My thoughts remain with Nicole’s family and loved ones.”
Sister pays emotional tribute
Nicole’s sister, Suze Bonds, has also appealed for people in Croydon to share information about her sister’s death. In an emotional online tribute, she described Nicole as “beautiful” and spoke about the close relationship they shared. She said the sisters shared their “deepest secrets” and were always there for one another, adding: “I can’t believe I will never see you again.” She said she would miss Nicole’s laugh and that her life would never be the same.
