Tragic Stabbing in Peckham Rye Park: Victim Named and Photographed

A 29-year-old man who died from a stab wound to the heart last week in south London has been identified for the first time. Kalabe Legesse was fatally attacked while sitting in Peckham Rye Park on the evening of December 30.

Brutal, Random Attack Near Park Café

Kalabe was “minding his own business” near a cafe off Strakers Road when he was stabbed at around 8:24 p.m. Despite rapid response from London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance crews, he tragically died at the scene just half an hour later.

“Kalabe’s family and friends have been left devastated by his death, which occurred after a brutal and senseless attack while he was simply sitting in the park,” said Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

Police Hunt Two Suspects on Pedal Bikes

The Metropolitan Police launched a full investigation and are searching for two suspects seen fleeing the park immediately after the stabbing. Officers believe the pair escaped riding pedal bikes towards Peckham Rye.

Detective Chief Inspector Goodwin urged anyone who was near the park around 8 p.m. to come forward. “We are working tirelessly to identify those responsible and would like to hear from anyone who was in or around the park, particularly near the café and playground.”

Community Shocked: New Year’s Eve Run Cancelled

The shocking attack has rocked the local community, forcing the cancellation of a planned New Year’s Eve run in Peckham Rye Park. Kalabe’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
