Van crash horror in Bircotes claims life of Leeds man
Fatal collision halts Bawtry Road
Lucian Abbey, 51, died instantly after two vans collided on Bawtry Road, Bircotes, at 9.45am on Thursday, 9 March. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, closing the road both ways for most of the day.
Another seriously injured in smash
Another driver involved was seriously hurt and taken to hospital. The full extent of their injuries is not yet clear.
Family told as police launch investigation
Lucian, who lived near Leeds, has left loved ones devastated. Detective Constable Liah Lane from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:
“A man sadly lost his life following this tragic incident. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this most difficult time.”
She added that anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dash-cam footage, should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 149 of 9 March 2023.
