Man Shot Dead in East London Park After Late-Night Violence
Tragedy struck Cheney Row Park in E17 early Sunday morning when a shooting left one man dead and another injured.
Gunfire Erupts at Busy Park Gathering
Police were called just after 12:35 a.m. on July 24 after reports of shots fired at the park off Durban Road. Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene, quickly setting up cordons and securing the crime scene.
Shortly after, two men arrived at a nearby east London hospital. The victim, a 28-year-old, suffered critical gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead soon after. His family has been informed and will receive support from specialist officers. A post-mortem and formal identification are planned.
Second Man Stabbed and Arrested
The second man, in his 30s, was treated for stab wounds and later released. Police arrested him in connection with the shooting. He remains in custody at a London police station.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
“My heart goes out to the family of the man who has lost his life in this reckless act of violence,” said DCI Kelly Allen, lead investigator. “At the time, there were 50 to 100 people at Cheney Row Park with music playing. I urgently need to speak to everyone who was there, even if you think you saw nothing significant.”

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, who leads Waltham Forest policing, called the incident “tragic” and “senseless” and sent his condolences to the victim’s family.
He added, “I understand community fears and want to reassure residents. Officers will be visible and on hand to listen to any concerns.”
