Murder probe launched after 84-year-old found dead in Bury

Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation after an 84-year-old man was found dead in his Bury home last Thursday, 13 March 2025. His injuries were deemed suspicious following a Home Office post-mortem examination.

Woman Arrested Over Death

A 70-year-old woman known to the victim was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday evening, 18 March, at around 7pm on Butterstile Lane in Prestwich, Bury. She remains in police custody as inquiries continue.

Police Reassure the Public

Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson said: “We understand the concern this news will raise within Bury that we have launched a murder investigation, but I want to reassure the local community this appears to be a contained incident with no wider threat.

As part of our investigation, we must follow strict procedures and gather as much evidence as possible to understand what happened, which sadly led to an elderly man losing his life.”
