Bournemouth Cash Conman Swipes iPhone 13 Pro in Fake Facebook Sale
Scammer strikes at 3.50pm on Saturday 5 November 2022 in Bournemouth. A man turned up to buy an Apple iPhone 13 Pro advertised on Facebook. He pretended to transfer the money, flashing his phone to ‘prove’ payment.
But the cash never hit the victim’s bank account. Quick-thinking seller snapped photos of the man’s blue BMW, its registration, and his driving licence before handing over the phone. Turns out, all the IDs were fake. The rip-off artist sped off with the phone – and no money changed hands.
More Frauds Hit Dorset and Weymouth
This wasn’t a one-off. Between 4 and 5 November, six similar scams hit Bournemouth, East Dorset, and Weymouth. Stolen goods include phones, a watch, a camera, and even an iPad – all traded on the promise of fake payments.
Police Hunt Bogus Buyer After Victims Left Out of Pocket
“These incidents have caused a significant financial loss for the victims,” said Police Sergeant Hayley Lyne of Dorset Police. “The offender made efforts to look credible but the car and licence details have come back as false.”
“We’re now ready to release an image of the man and ask anyone who recognises him to come forward.”
