Terrifying Attack at Children’s Party
A toddler aged between two and three was rushed to hospital with head and arm injuries after being attacked by a dog at a birthday party in Stockton-on-Tees. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon at a property on Chopwell Close, Hardwick.
Emergency services arrived quickly after reports of the brutal mauling. The dog, believed to be a pitbull-cross, was seized by Cleveland Police and taken to a specialist kennel while investigations continue.
Police Secures Dog, Child Taken to Hospital
“Police were called to a property on Chopwell Close in Hardwick, Stockton, this afternoon after it was reported that a child had been attacked by a dog. Officers attended the scene and secured the dog safely, without any harm to the animal, and removed it from the premises. The child has been taken to hospital for treatment for arm and head injuries. Police remain at the scene whilst enquiries continue.”
The child was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees. Thankfully, police say the injuries are not life-threatening.
Community in Shock as Dangerous Dog Concerns Rise
Though the dog breed hasn’t been officially confirmed, witnesses described it as a pitbull-type cross. The attack has reignited fears about dangerous dogs at private gatherings, especially when children are involved.
“It was meant to be a happy occasion. No one expected something like this to happen,” a neighbour said, expressing the shock felt across the community.
The RSPCA and local authorities have been alerted, with detectives investigating potential breaches of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
