Horror Pub Attack in Basingstoke: Woman Left with Burns
A 52-year-old woman suffered burns to her head and back after a horrifying substance was thrown at her inside the Golden Lion pub, Basingstoke. The attack, which happened between 9.30pm and 10pm on Saturday, has sparked a police manhunt for the suspect.
Victim Severely Traumatized After Substance Assault
The victim was walking through the packed pub when an unknown substance hit her head and back. She now has reddened, blistered skin and was forced to cut her hair short due to matting caused by the corrosive material.
Police confirmed the substance is not acid, but have yet to identify what was used. Two men, aged 48 and 53 from Basingstoke, have been arrested for attempted grievous bodily harm with intent. They are currently on bail until May 10 as inquiries continue.
Spike in Acid and Substance Attacks Sparks Fear
This shocking assault adds to a worrying rise in acid and substance attacks across the UK. The Acid Survivors Trust International reports a 45% jump in such attacks in London last year and a 69% increase across England and Wales.
Recent high-profile cases include a terrifying attack on a mother and her two daughters in Clapham. The mother remains hospitalised with serious eye injuries, while police hunt for suspect Abdul Ezedi, who may have jumped into the Thames. Another incident involved a man threatening bus passengers with a corrosive substance in Brixton.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Kent Police are also investigating a separate ‘noxious substance’ attack in a Ramsgate graveyard, while Hampshire Constabulary urges anyone with information on the Basingstoke pub attack or related incidents to come forward or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
Witnesses urged: If you saw anything suspicious inside the Golden Lion pub or have any footage, contact Hampshire Constabulary immediately.
