Tributes are pouring in for six-year-old Matthew Healy, who was tragically discovered unresponsive in a car parked along a rural lane at Rathmoylan Cove near Ballymacaw, Ireland, on Friday.
Matthew, a budding footballer, had recently joined the under-7s Park Rangers AFC team, and his local club expressed deep sorrow over his passing. In a poignant Facebook post, the club mourned the loss of their young player, stating, “Matthew was a member of our under-seven squad. He will be sadly missed by teammates and coaches. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.”
As the community grapples with the devastating news, Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, announced a prayer vigil to honour Matthew’s memory. The vigil, scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm on Saturday at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in Waterford, aims to provide solace and support to the grieving family and the wider community.
“The loss of a young life is a profound tragedy that deeply affects us all,” stated Bishop Cullinan. As a community, it is important for us to come together in prayer and reflection to offer comfort and strength to the family and friends of the young boy who has left us too soon.
Meanwhile, An Garda Siochana is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Matthew’s death. A woman in her late 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The authorities await the results of a post-mortem examination, with the outcome set to guide further inquiries.
The local Coroner and Office of the State Pathologist have been informed, and the scene remains under forensic and technical examination as the investigation unfolds.
The entire community is rallying around Matthew’s family during this unimaginably difficult time, offering prayers, support, and condolences as they mourn the loss of a beloved young member.
