Midnight Heist Foiled: Gang Nabbed After £11,000 Tech Theft in Fremlin Walk
Four Criminals Target Maidstone Shop
On the night of 29 May 2023, Marian Ghita and three accomplices rolled into Maidstone with one plan – hit a store in Fremlin Walk. Just past midnight, three of the gang forced open the main door and swiped mobile phones and tablets worth over £11,000 from display cases right at the front.
CCTV and Cars Crack the Case
The Kent Crime Squad sprang into action. They trawled through CCTV footage and spotted two vehicles used by the gang to reach the town. One was an Audi linked directly to Ghita, found parked outside his east London home. The other, a Peugeot, was located nearby.
Ghita Caught and Sentenced
Ghita, 48, from Florence Gardens, Romford, was arrested on 14 June. Detectives proved he travelled to Maidstone and back around the time of the raid. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary at Maidstone Crown Court and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison on 13 July.
Strong Warning From Police
Detective Constable Josh Littley said: ‘Ghita was part of an organised crime gang that thought they could come into Kent and get away with it. Their confidence was misplaced. Our thorough investigation has brought one conspirator to justice.
‘If criminals choose to travel into Kent to offend, we will be relentless in tracking them down and bringing them to court as quickly as possible.’
