Police Nab Banned Driver in Swindon
David Watkins-Rudman was caught red-handed behind the wheel in Swindon in the early hours of 20 September 2021. Officers on patrol spotted him driving a blue Citroen down Swindon Road and quickly pulled him over.
Driving Ban Ignored, No Insurance
When police approached, they soon discovered Watkins-Rudman was driving while disqualified – and to make matters worse, he had no insurance.
Harsh Penalties for Reckless Motorist
The 35-year-old from Sheppard Street faced Swindon Magistrates Court on 25 May, having pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for one year, fined £100, and slapped with an additional three-year driving ban.
Police Warn: Driving Bans Are Serious
PC Luke Hobbs from Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Team said:
“Motorists are given driving bans for a reason, usually because they have already proven that they can’t be trusted to drive in a safe and responsible way. We will continue to work hard to ensure those who are disqualified adhere to the rules and don’t get away with flouting their ban.”
- If you suspect someone is driving while banned, report it to police on 101 immediately.
