Argument Turns Deadly Near Finsbury Park
David Odunuga stabbed Brian Edwards three times following a heated argument near Finsbury Park on 19 September 2023. The 53-year-old victim was found injured outside his home in Tollington Park at 4am and died shortly after emergency services arrived.
Forensic Evidence Links Odunuga to Crime Scene
Detectives discovered a silver BMW X5 at the scene, linked to Odunuga through false details on insurance and registration documents. A car key recovered from the vehicle contained Odunuga’s DNA, further tying him to the attack.
Additional mobile phone data and extensive CCTV footage tracked Odunuga’s movements on the night, including visits to the victim’s family address and the location where Brian’s phone was later found discarded.
Arrest and Trial Reveal Attempt to Evade Justice
Odunuga was arrested at his Brentwood home in Essex on 22 September after a joint operation by the Met Police and Essex Police. Police also found a black balaclava and large knife sheath in one of his vehicles.
During the trial, Odunuga admitted changing his name by deed poll to fraudulently obtain a driving licence and passport, allowing him to dodge prosecution and driving bans. He claimed a drug dealer took his car over a debt hours before the murder and denied killing Brian Edwards.
Guilty Verdict Delivered at Old Bailey
David Odunuga, 33, of Rollason Way, Brentwood, was found guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon on 1 and 3 April at the link="linked">Old Bailey. Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday, 4 April at Inner London Crown Court.
